Since WMV1 files are playing while WMV2/3 are not, turning off video acceleration may help the problem. I tried to figure out how to uninstall wmp11 and reinstall the version before it, tried to find. Well I use this laptop have over 150 emails setup and microsoft products etc and data that is backed up but it would take weeks to reinstall and re configure everything for what to find out after a couple weeks of doing that the symtoms re-arise? So then they say use the recovery disk (as they do every issue you ask them about) HP says do a system restore, but I only have a couple restores

So I began deleting all updates after 12/22 still doesnt work.

It was a microsoft update that caused this. HP says contact Microsoft, Microsoft says contact HP. Tried downloading wmp11 for vista but the version is earlier than. If the format is wmv1 it plays fine, I even got a wmv1 from a microsoft site and it shows video fine. news, training, eductionation, business. I can hear the audio but not the video it also effects streams from the internet i.e. Immediately after updates on Dec 24th, WMP11 stopped playing the video on wmv2 and higher. Had 2 weeks was playing streams and wmv2 and higher fine! Just got a new HP laptop top of the line!
